Hello! I'm Shanthan Kumar.

 

Passionate mechanical engineering graduate student working in the field of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Connected & Autonomous Vehicles, looking for prospective Ph.D. positions starting from the Fall 2021 semester.

I am currently working on the development of a framework for evaluating the sensitivities of the pre-trained object detection algorithms to various image properties, in order to quantify the robustness of these algorithms. I am using OpenCV and other open-sourced tools to create this python framework. 

My previous experiences include benchmarking modeling methods for environment and perception systems for ADAS. I have also worked on a project that involved the creation of an environmental traffic modeling and simulation software-in-loop toolset for electrified fleets using SUMO and python script. This work has been accepted at SAE WCX 2021 conference.

Apart from having strong fundamentals of Energy Management in HEVs, Battery Systems, and Numerical Techniques through my coursework at The Ohio State University, due to my work for the EcoCAR 4 on Battery Systems, I am also well equipped with MATLAB and SIMULINK.
 

Attending webinars during COVID-19 has made me realized the importance of Machine Learning and  Optimization techniques. After which I have pursued online coursework on Machine Learning and Python to get strong exposure so that I can use these powerful tools for my research. Currently, I am developing a strong foundation in Control Theory and Optimization as these are the main pillars of any Autonomous problem.
